Profiteers fined Rs340400


KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that 123 illegal profiteering shopkeepers were fined for selling food items at higher than government rates.

He said that crackdown against illegal profiteers and food adulterators was under way. The fine charged from 123 shops was Rs340400 for selling milk, flour, vegetables, pulses, meat, fruits, chicken and other items of basic utilities on rates higher than fixed by the government.

Siddiqui said that crackdown against profiteers was carried out in Gulberg, North Nazimabad, SITE area, Bin Qasim, Civil Line, Gulzar-e-Hijri and Saddar.

Commissioner further said that as a result of crackdown throughout the city 102 milkmen, 03 utility stores’ keepers, 02 vegetable-sellers, 01 fruit-seller, 13 chicken-sellers were fined, while, 06 milkmen were sent to jail for continuous violation.

“Crackdown against profiteers and food adulterators would continue until they get rid of their wrongdoings and ensure provision of food items to citizens on government fixed rates,” he said.

He said that officials have been posted in Sabzi Mandi to stop artificial shortage and profiteering, which has brought the prices of vegetables lower.
