KARACHI: Patients Welfare Association (PWA) on Wednesday organised its fundraising carnival ‘annual bake sale’ to generate funds to be used for provision of free medical facilities to underprivileged patients at Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK).
Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s President, Iftikhar Ahmed Vohra, was the chief guest on this occasion. Tariq Shafi, Siddiqui Sheikh, Aftab Ahmed Diwan and Junaid Shekha also attended the event.
The students of Dow Medical College set up different stalls of handicrafts, foods, photo-booth, games, flowers, balloons and lives graffiti designing on shirts. The event was visited by people from all walks of life including doctors, students and celebrities.
Spokesperson PWA while talking to the media persons, said aim of organizing annual bake sale event was to raise a generous amount of fund, so as to boost the existing service and health facilities free of cost to poor patients.
She said PWA is a non-political, and non-governmental organization, voluntarily run by the students of Dow Medical College since 1979 within Civil Hospital Karachi, providing free of cost medical services to the destitute patientd of CHK throughout its blood bank with an annual output of around 90,000 screened blood bags, TB and general follow up with over 300 registered patients, Thalassemia services with 275 registered patients, drug bank and diagnostic lab catering to the needs countless patients every day.
