Qaim says targeted operation to continue

Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has appreciated the overall achievement of the targeted operation in Karachi and said praised the spirit and commitment of Sindh Police and Rangers.

Presiding over a meeting on law & order at CM House Saturday, he said that transfer of Ex- Additional IGP Karachi Shahid Hayat was made in compliance of the court orders. However, he said the present police team would continue the operation against criminals. He said that there is no time limit for the operation and it to be continued till it is needed.

He said that the LEAs are fighting terrorists with full force but the result of this fight depends on the convictions to the arrested criminals. He constituted a three-member committee comprising on Provincial Secretaries of Home, Law and Advocate General of Sindh to co-ordinate in better prosecution of the cases challaned in courts.

He said all police officers will be posted only on merit basis and Karachi Police will continue to enjoy its operational autonomy.

He asked Inspector General of Sindh Police for early procurement of APC, bulletproof vehicles, helmets and other equipment. He also asked him to engage technocrats for expediting housing schemes of police officials within or near their police stations. He said that consultations to enhance the compensation to the heirs of police/ rangers martyrs was in progress.

He said 10,000 personnel will be inducted in the Sindh Police in the coming year. He said that the budget of the Sindh police is also being increased in next financial year 2014-15.
