KARACHI: Sachal Goth’s residents staged a big rally and set tyres on fire here on Sunday at Sachal Chowk against Karachi Electric (KE) for carrying out 17-hour-long power outages and unattended complaints in their areas of Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
Hundreds of protesters carrying placards and banners took out a rally against K-Electric, reasoning that KE has been targeting their areas since last week by increasing load shedding up to 17 hours on daily basis.
Annoyed residents set tyres on fire and blocked both sides of Road where they staged demonstration the way that leads to Dow University Hospital (Ojah Campus) and Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO).
The most affected areas include Sachal, Ayoub, Maroora and Seeta-Nager villages of rural side of Karachi. Former MPA Jamaat-e-Islami Mohammad Younis Barai also participated in protest.
Speaking to media, he showed concern over discriminating policy of K-Electric in rural areas of Karachi where long-hour power outages had badly affected citizens’ lives especially, students, patients, and old age pople and hit their economies.
He said he had directed to KE authorities to reschedule load-shedding and reconsider their policy in affected areas. He also condemned KE act of filing FIRs against activists of Jamaat-e-islami and residents who were raising their voices against injustice.
Sindh National Movement’s Chairman Aijaz Ahemd Samtio, Javed Hussain Rind, other political activists and hundreds of residents attended the protest and demanded of Sindh government to take immediate notice of K-Electric injustice with residents of these slum areas.
