Karachi: Shameel Cricket Club defeated PAF (Faisal Base) Cricket Club by eleven runs in the summit clash and clinched Ian Fyfe Memorial T20 Cricket Tournament title here at KGA Cricket Gymkhana.
Shameel CC batted first in the match and put board 153-8 in allotted 20 overs. Imtiaz Wattoo (31 runs) and Ram Ravi (26 runs) batted well for the side. Abu Bakar captured a three-wicket haul giving away 33 runs in four overs.
In response, PAF (Faisal Base) CC scored 142 runs before losing all of their wickets in 19.4 overs. Akhtar Rana batted well for the side scoring 48 runs. Mukhtar Niazi bowled lethally and captured a four-wicket haul for the winning team.
In the prize distribution ceremony, chief guest Ali Hussain, who is KCCA Zone III President, said it was a very good initiative to organize cricket tournaments in memory of people, who promoted sports and had worked for the welfare of sportsmen.
“These memorial tournaments refresh the memory of who loved sports and worked for its promotion in their capacity. Moreover, it also gives platform to players to showcase their talent,” he said.
He added that talented players at grass-root level should receive every possible resource.
“This is the only possible way to produce world-class talented players in future who will be able to represent the country in a forceful manner at international level,” he added.
He further said that KCCA Zone III will do its level best to provide good infrastructure and all possible resources to its players.
KCCA Senior Vice President Asif Azeem, KGA Gymkhana President Leney Dice, Tournament Secretary Clarence, Jonathan Rogers, S.D. Souza and Abbas Nawaz were also present on the occasion.
In the end, Ali Hussain gave away winning trophy and Rs 15000 to winning team of the tournament. Mukhtar Niazi received Man of the Final Match award.
