SHC adjourns hearing on Musharraf petition

KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday put off the hearing of petition filed by General (retd) Pervez Musharraf against the restriction on his travelling out of country.

A division bench headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar adjourned the hearing of case till May 29 when counsel for petitioner Dr Farogh Naseem could not show up. Musharraf has approached the court to get his name withdrawn from ECL so that he could visit his ailing elderly mother in Dubai.

A day earlier, Attorney-general Salman Butt defended the placing of name of Musharraf on ECL and argued that high court had not territorial jurisdiction to hear the matter as the name of the former military ruler was placed on the exit control list on the orders of the Supreme Court. It was stated that the former president should approach the apex court to get his name withdrawn from ECL.
