KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday restrained Thatta police from taking any further action in pursuance of FIRs registered against a person affiliated with Sheerazi group of Thatta, allegedly at the behest of ruling party of the province.
A division bench headed by Justice Ahmed Ali M Sheikh gave this injunction on a petition of Shoukat Jamali, who moved the court seeking quashment of allegedly false and fabricated cases against his brother Mehrab Jamali.
The bench issued notice to home secretary, provincial police chief, SSP Sujawal, and other police officials, asking them to file their respective comments on a petition.
The petitioner told the judges that his brother was picked up by SHO Chuhar Jamali police station on March 17, who illegally detained him at the police station. When he filed application under section 491 CrPC before District and Session Judge Thatta for recovery of his brother from illegal confinement, the police nominated his brother in different false cases, he added.
He said that being affiliated with Sheerazi group, his family was being subjected to political victimization and bullied into swearing loyalties to ruling party. The petitioner requested the court to order quashment of case against his brother.
The two-judge bench directed investigation officer in the cases lodged against petitioner to appear before the court with the relevant record.
