KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday issued notice to provincial government and IGP Sindh to furnish their respective replies on a petition seeking compensation to families of 172 police personnel killed during ongoing operation in Karachi city.
A division bench headed by Chief Justice Maqbool Baqar converted into constitutional petition an application against denial of compensation to families of 172 Shaheed personnel and issued notice to chief secretary and IGP Sindh. It adjourned the hearing of case till March 25.
Applicant Nadeem Ahmed Sheikh, president of Justice Help Line submitted in application that lives of police personnel were at risk as they were being targeted in reaction to ongoing targeted operations in the city.
He said provincial government had announced RS2million compensation to families of those police personnel who were killed in line of their duties but they were being denied compensation. He requested the court to issue directives to provincial authorities for payment compensation to victim families.
