KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday issued notice to the Lyari Expressway Rehabilitation Project (LERP) authorities to present their comments, explaining their failure to make payment of compensation to the affectees of project whose land was acquired for the LERP.
A division bench of SHC had taken up an application filed by the affecttes of LERP, requesting court to proceed against the relevant authorities for nonpayment of compensation.
The applicants, Bilal Haroon Awan and others, submitted that earlier the court had directed the respondents – provincial authorities, commissioner Karachi and project director – to make payment of compensation to all those whose lands were acquired for the project but same orders were not complied with yet as they have yet not been paid compensation.
They requested the court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against the LERP authorities and issue directions for freezing the accounts of LERP.
After initial hearing, the bench issued notice to LERP authorities and others to submit their response to the application.
