KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday sought comments from provincial government on a petition questioning appointment of retired employees on contractual basis in Karachi University.
A division bench headed by Justice Ahmed Ali M Sheikh was seized with the hearing of a petition filed by Shaukat Ali who challenged the appointment of university’s registrar, Mansoor Ahmed, director finance, Qazi Zafar Abbas and deputy director finance, Minhaj Gilani, who according to petitioner have been appointed on contractual basis in violation of the university rules.
He said that vice chancellor had no authority to appoint any retired person on the contractual basis. Retired persons were appointed in violation of the university laws and Supreme Court’s orders.
The petitioner quoted apex court’s order as saying that retired persons cannot be rehired against sanctioned posts, which is likely to affect the junior officers waiting for their promotions.
The court was prayed to direct chancellor of the university to immediately terminate the services of retired persons appointed on key posts.
