SHC summons SHO in unlawful detention case

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday directed head of Gadap Town police station to appear before it and submit a report on whereabouts of a missing man allegedly kept in illegal detention by Gadap town police.

The direction came on a petition filed by Kha Jan who moved the court against illegal detention of his son Shah Hussain and murder of his nephew Zakirullah in alleged fake encounter by police.

A division bench headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar issued notice to home secretary, director general Rangers, provincial police chief, SSP Malir and SHO Gadap Town police station, asking them to submit their respective comments on a petition by July 18.

The petitioner submitted that his son and nephew along with family members were heading towards their native town via bus on June 28 when their vehicle was intercepted by Rangers and Police personnel at Kashmore. He said the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) get them out of the bus and took away.

The petitioner stated that later, LEAs shifted them to Karachi and they were detained at Gadap Town police station. He claimed that LEAs demanded money for the safe release of two, adding that upon refusal police killed Zakirullah in an alleged fake encounter by declaring him a member of banned organization.

The petitioner said that Gadap Town police had kept his son in illegal detention and demanded money for his release. The petitioner requested the court to direct LEAs to produce his son in court and order probe into the murder of Zakirullah.
