SHC takes notice of 48 child deaths by virus


KARACHI:,,, Sindh High Court (SHC) Chief Justice Maqbool Baqar on Tuesday took notice of reported deaths of 48 children caused by rubella virus, in Thatta and Sajawal areas of the province.

The SHC Chief Justice while converting an application into constitutional petition issued notice to secretary health and provincial law officer to submit their respective replies in response to application by May 14.

Advocate Zulfikar Ali Langah addressed a letter to SHC Chief Justice requesting him to take notice of outbreak of rubella virus in Thatta and Sajawal areas of Sindh due to lack of vaccination for prevention of the disease.

Zulfikar submitted that 40 deaths of children due to disease have been reported so far, adding that no vaccination for prevention of the disease was available in the government hospitals. He said that virus was spreading due to failure of provincial government to contain it.
