KARACHI: Sindh government information technology department will launch 14 new projects for the year 2014-2015.
Talking to PPI, Secretary Information Science and Technology Ali Mumtaz Zaidi said that the provincial government was moving faster to improve use of technology among government officials.
“IT department trained 4000 people including government employees in computer usage,” he said adding that except government employees, majority of them were now employed in different institutions.
He said that new projects included computerization of domicile and PRC in coordination with NADRA, IT road map for 2015-2020, fixing of CCTV cameras at minority worship places, computerized system of Zakat distribution, ATM cards for distribution of funds to poor minority people and establishment of minority helpline.
He said that the department would also initiate a project named Sindh e-Government Applications Cloud which would enable provincial department to store their data on an online server, ending dependence on hand written documents.
“Each department will have its own password and a backup system would also be established to avoid losing data,” he said.
He said that an IT Silicon Valley named after Arfa Karim will be established. “Land for the project is being sanctioned at Superhighway and it will be equipped with state of the art IT facilities,” he said.
He said that other new projects were setting up Livestock and Poultry Testing Labs across Sindh, e- Annual development program monitoring of planning and development department, fleet management system for SGA&CD vehicles and others.
He said that the department had also planned to upgrade e-conferencing system, which now provides facilities to governor, chief minister, chief secretary and commissioners of different areas in Sindh to contact each other without meeting at a single place. “In second phase secretaries of the provincial government will also be included in it,” he said adding that it would save a lot of money spend on transport expenses.
He said that the government had completed 18 IT projects in the current fiscal year which included Sindh government web portal project, biometric registration of government employees, training of computers for 11,000 people under Benazir Bhutto program, e-policing which included computerization of Madadgar 15 and driving license branch, establishment of FM radio for police and several others.
