KARACHI: Sindh Food Department sold 111,000 metric tons of wheat worth Rs 4 billion in the month of October 2015, which is a record. It has never released such a huge quantity of wheat in the month of October in past history.
This was informed by Provincial Minister for Food, Manzoor Hussain Wasan, in a meeting held at his office here on Tuesday. Sindh Food Secretary Laiq Ahmed, Director Food Ahmed Ali Qureshi, Additional Secretary Zubair Pervez Ahmed, Additional Director Khalid Qaimkhani and food department’s other senior officials were present in the meeting.
The meeting was informed that this time, wheat is being sold under free policy by abolishing the quota system, which has left positive impact in shape of wheat sale at large scale.
The minister was informed that wherever officials received complaints of embezzlement and transfer of wheat, they immediately ordered probe. The meeting was also told that an investigation committee has been formed to probe reported reduction of 4000 bags in wheat stock in Naushehro Feroz district.
He was further told that every possible step has been taken to release stocked wheat from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM throughout week. He instructed officials to ensure transparency and raise their performance on priority basis.
