SITE industrialists allowed using boring water


KARACHI: It was decided in a high-level meeting on Thursday that SITE industrialists could use subsoil water through boring from June 05 onwards until the required amount of water was provided by the water board.

To help solve water issue in SITE industries, on the directives of Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, a meeting of high-level committee headed by Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui was held at commissioner office.

Chairman Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry/ Business Management Group Siraj Kassam Teli informed in detail the problems being faced by industrialists regarding water and proposed solution for this.

Additional Commissioner Karachi I Aslam Khoso, Managing Director Karachi Water & Sewerage Board Qutubuddin Sheikh, Chairman SITE Association Younus Bashir, MD SITE Ltd Nazar Muhammad Bozdar, Deputy Commissioner West Syed Muhammad Ali Shah and other relevant officers were also present on the occasion.

The SITE Association told the meeting that the water demand in the SITE industrial area is 40 million gallons per day (MGD), therefore, until KWSB was not able to provide the required amount of water, industrialists could bore through different sources and use subsoil water.

It was decided in the meeting that SITE Association would provide a list to MD SITE, Deputy Commissioner West, and MD KWSB of the people being provided water from boring, it would also include their network plan.

Whenever felt a need, KWSB along with district administration, MD SITE Ltd, and Chairman SITE Association would check the pipelines to ascertain that whether the water was being supplied through boring or water board’s water was being stolen or mixed for supply through pipelines or any other mean.

MD KWSB said in the meeting that the water lines and connections could be checked through modern technology or DTS meters if sweet water was being supplied in boring lines.

Siddiqui said that after a long meeting and with the collective decision a better plan has been made which would be implemented from June 05.
