KARACHI: The Health Department Sindh has decided to administer Injectable Polio Vaccine (IPV) to 114,688 children of 177 Union Councils in 13 districts of the Sindh province and thye drive will begin from 18th May.
Special Secretary Public Health Dr Khalid Hussain Shaikh informed that drive will start from 18th and continue till 25th May. He said during this drive children between the age of 4 to 23 months would be given IPV.
He further said that during this initiative 48 Union Councils (UCs) of Hyderabad, 12 of Dadu, nine of Shaheed Benazirabad, six of Sanghar, 10 of Naushero Feroze, eight of Sukkur, six of Ghotki, 11 of Khairpur, 15 of Jacobabad, 12 of Kambar-Shahdadkot, 15 of Kashmore, 10 of Larkana and 15 of Shikarpur would be covered. The concerned District Health Officers (DHOs) and the Deputy Commissioners have already been asked to submit their respective micro plans.
He said during this drive 332,429 children up to 5 years of age would be given Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV). The outreach and fixed centres in above Union Councils would operate from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m daily and the social mobilizers would motivate parents to bring their children at these centers. A meeting to review final arrangements in this regard would be held on 10th May, he concluded.
