Sports: Cricket: Azeem Pura Gymkhana wins inaugural match of cricket tourney

Karachi: Azeem Pura Gymkhana overpowered Omar Cricket Club by 37 runs in Omar Associates Trophy Club Cricket Tournament here at Hill Park Ground.

Batting first Azeem Pura Gymkhana scored 214-8 in 30 overs. Hanif Azad top scored for the side with 34 runs.

In reply Omar Cricket Club were all bundled out in 177-10 in 26 overs. Fauzul Hassan scored 39 runs. Haseeb Ahsan captured three wickets for the victors in the match.

Director of Omar Associates Nadeem Omar said he has decided to patronize club cricket and vowed that Omar Associates Trophy Club Cricket Tournament will one of its own kind.

“The clubs of Zone-IV will be involved in the competition and its semifinals and finals will be televised, something which has not been witnessed in past,” he said.

Former Test cricketer Jalaluddin said that players of Zone-IV are lucky that Omar Associates are providing them a platform to show their talent in live matches on TV during inauguration of the event as chief guest.

“Nadeem Omar have always come up and supported cricket at the grass root level which is a great gesture,” Jalal said.

“He has previously backed project of inter-school cricket and created history by taking to a next level when it was televised as well. Whatever he is doing for sports and athletes is unparalleled and there is no example of such work.”

Meanwhile, Nadeem said that he wishes and every club and school cricket tournament is televised so that the whole nation can see the talent in our country.

“I’m trying to get matches of Zone-IV televised so that everyone can see their potential in Pakistan,” Nadeem stated while he also gave away an award to Saeed Jabbar.

On the occasion, Saeed Jabbar praised Nadeem for doing a unique service to the game of cricket and requested him to patronise zones as well so that players can get all the facilities.
