Sports: Cricket: Lahore clinches Fatima Jinnah Cricket Championship title


Karachi: Lahore women cricket team recorded an 18-run triumph against their counterparts from Karachi in a reduced summit clash of 9th Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah National Women Cricket Championship held on Friday at Diamond Cricket Ground in Islamabad.

Karachi batted first in the match and put on board 222-10 in 48.2 overs. Nain Abidi batted well for the side scoring 77 off 111 balls. Javeria Rauf scored 34 off 44 balls and Javeria Khan scored 31 off 25 balls. Elizabeth Barkat, Hafsa Amjad and Iram Javed scored two wickets each.

Lahore in response scored 190-4 in 43 overs. Bismah Maroof batted well for the side scoring unbeaten 83 off 113 balls. Mareena Iqbal scored 41 off 57 balls. Maham Tariq captured two wickets. Lahore women were declared winners by 18 runs on D/L method.

The winner received Rs100,000 while runners-up took away Rs 50,000. Best Batter Javeria Khan (Karachi), Best Bowler Sumaiya Siddiqui (Hyderabad), Best Wicketkeeper Huma Shafiq (Islamabad) and Best Fielder Sidra Amin (Lahore) each cashed Rs 10,000.
