Sports: Cricket: Retirement decision was a difficult one: Misbah

Karachi: Pakistan cricket team skipper Misbah-ul-Haq on Tuesday said that the decision to retire after World Cup was a difficult one but nobody forced him to do that and it is his own decision.

“Cricket is above everything for me and after playing for twenty years, the decision to retire from ODIs and T20s was a bit difficult. But everything is destined to meet its end therefore I believe it was a high time to retire after World Cup,” Misbah told reporters in Lahore.

He categorically brushed aside speculations that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has forced him to announce his retirement.

“It is my own decision and nobody has asked me or forced me to do so. I believe it is time to retire on a high note,” he said.

Meanwhile, he added that Team Pakistan will go all out put some impressive showing during World Cup.

“The fact that I would be retiring from the limited overs after World Cup has motivated me to perform and put my best as team’s captain. Hopefully, we will not let down the nation,” he added.

On the occasion, PCB chief Shaharyar Khan said that he has never seen Pakistan cricket team more united before while praising Misbah.

“Misbah has gelled the team well and I believe if a team produces united efforts then they can go all the way during a big tournament. Big names cannot win big events but a united team can,” he said.

Shaharyar added that Misbah’s retirement decision was his own and the board didn’t ask him to retire nor it has asked him to stay a bit longer.
