Karachi: Pakistani youngster Mahin Aftab Qureshi clinched girls’ singles title in the second leg of ITF Asian 14 and Under Tennis Championships Division II 2015, which concluded on Wednesday in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.
According to reports made available here, Mahin overpowered Anika Seneviratne of Sri Lanka in straight sets by 6-4, 6-4 score in the summit clash.
Mahin is the first Under 14 girl in the history of Pakistan tennis to have won the ITF Asian Championship title. It is pertinent to mention that she was also the runner-up in the first leg of the Championship.
President Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF), Salim Saifullah Khan, Secretary Mohammad Khalid Rehmani and the Management Committee of PTF congratulated Mahin on her excellent performance in both tournaments in Vietnam.
“She played brilliantly and we congratulate her on her glorious achievement. We hope she continues to win laurels for the country,” Khalid Rehmani told PPI.
Pakistan boys also performed well in the championships. Huzaifa Abdul Rehman secured ninth position, Hamza Bin Rehan came 12th and Amin Shafi occupied 18th position.
“Such events for the young players will give them exposure and experience and hopefully they will be able to play well in future international tournaments as well,” Khalid added.

Ninth position match:
Huzaifa Abdul Rehman bt Pham Duc Phu (Vietnam) 2-6, 6-4, 6-0
Seventeenth position match:
Renjen Lama (Nepal) bt Amin Shafi 6-1, 6-0
Eleventh position match:
Dorji Tenzin (Bhutan) bt Hamza Rehan 6-3, 7-5
