Street children success shows hope exists in nation

KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said on Thursday that young talent is a hope for Pakistan and the rising stars who brought laurel to the country made us realize that there is still a silver lining, a hope and a way out for the nation.

Siddiqui was speaking at an event organized by Commissioner Karachi Office in honour of Pakistan Street Children Football Team, who won bronze medal in Street Children Football World Cup after battling against 25 teams.

Ex-police chief Shahid Hayat Khan, Anti Narcotic Force Chief Brig Abu Zar, Secretary Sports Sindh Laeeq Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner East Samiuddin Siddiqui, Secretary Local Government Robina Asif, Ex-captain Pakistan International Football Team Rana Muhammad Younus, Former Pakistan Tennis Player Saeed Hai, Deputy Commissioner Korangi Zubair Channa, Chairman Azad Foundation Syed Irfan and other people from sports and government sector were also present on the occasion.

All the football team members were given an arousing welcome at the event. Specially, Raziq Mushtaq, who scored eight goals against India and 2nd highest number of goals in the tournament, was centre of attention.

The commissioner said that the people who made us hopeless should realize now that if the Pakistani children without proper facilities could beat the world teams, who usually have many resources at their doorsteps, then anything could happen.

“We must realize the power of sports which can hoist national flag anywhere in the world, even in India. Today we should take oath that we would work in collaboration for the prosperity of Pakistan,” he said.

Khan said that seeing the children’s commendable success one could believe that nothing is impossible. If given the chance our nation could produce legends.

“Defeating India with remarkable score, 13-0, and getting bronze medal for their country in the world cup is amazing,” he said.

Ahmed said that the children have compelled the authorities to mull over that street children were no less than ‘smart’ kids as they have brought unexpected laurel to their country.

Irfan said that it has been proved that if Pakistanis were given a proper platform they could do miracles.

Captain of the team, Sameer Ahmed, narrated the success story and spokesperson of the team, Owais, urged the authorities to pay attention towards street children to help stop crimes.
