Tension in Karachi affects hospitals


Karachi: The medical services in various government and private hospitals of Karachi were badly affected as many doctors, paramedics and other staff could not reach on their duties due to the tense situation in the city on Tuesday.

The news of arrest of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain in alleged money laundering case badly disturbed the operational work in major hospitals of Karachi as majority of staff could not reach on duty to the shortage public transport. Only these doctors, paramedics and other staff managed to reach hospitals who owned personal transport.

All the public and private transport services and CNG stations remained closed in the city after the news of MQM leader Altaf Hussain arrest broke. Major hospitals of Karachi including Civil Hospital Karachi, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, National Institute of Child Health, National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases and other hospitals faced a serious shortage of staff for evening an d night shifts.
