KARACHI: Anti-illegal marriage halls campaign in Karachi left Saadequain Marriage Lawn unscathed on Tuesday due to a timely call from the right quarters that diverted the demolishing team away from this target.
Sources said City Wardens had been placed around the Saadequain Lawn at Nipa Chowrangi in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and the anti-encroachment team was moving right towards the target; however, a timely phone call from a senior political party leader routed the team away towards another marriage lawn.
Then, the anti-encroachment department demolished another illegal marriage lawn at Nipa Chowrangi. However, they did not touch the Saadequain Lawn Marriage Hall.
In recent past an illegal marriage lawn was demolished in North Karachi which was said to be owned by a senior Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader.
However, Sindh Minister for Information and Local Bodies Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that land mafia was active in the city which was occupying government lands and the plots allocated for amenity purpose. All illegal constructions on the occupied amenity lands would be demolished, he said.
