Traffic jams in Saddar as Patharas reappear

Karachi: Commuters, motorists and pedestrians have been facing problems due to traffic jams in busy Saddar area, as roadside vending stalls called Patharas have again reappeared in the area, occupying roads and footpaths.

Empress Market, Jahangir Park, New Preedy Street and surrounding areas were seen clogged as hundreds of Patharas occupied roads and footpaths. These Patharas were removed in past, but as the Eid shopping season has approached this menace has again occupied roads and footpaths creating troubles for citizens.

Moreover, illegal terminus of minibuses and inter-city long route buses in Saddar area are also contributing to traffic congestion in the locality. The KMC has failed to fully utilize its multi-storied car parking plaza on New Preedy Street by declaring Saddar as no-parking zone, despite the fact that the car parking plaza was completed seven years ago.

Citizens have requested the commissioner Karachi, administrator KMC, administrator DMC South and other concerned officials to remove these Patharas and illegal bus terminals with the help of rangers so that the citizens could move freely in this very congested area. They also request to declare the Saddar area no-parking zone so that people could park their vehicles in spacy CDDK car parking plaza at New Preedy Street instead of parking them on roads and streets.
