Transport dept asked to start work on BRT


Karachi: Chief Secretary Sindh Mohammad Siddiq Memon has advised the Secretary Transport to update the BUS Rapid Transport (BRT) System with a view to validate and implement, the same in accordance with due approbation, based on rules and regulations.

He noted this, while presiding a review meeting, thereof, on Wednesday. Secretary Transport M. Tuaha Farooqui, apprised the meeting about the infrastructure component, bidding process, and certain other issues.

According to the plan four (04) types of Buses i.e. BRT-Red, BRT-Green, BRT-Yellow and BRT-Blue are to be brought out respectively from Model Colony to Peoples Chowrangi (Near Mazar-e-Quaid), Surjani Town to Jamia Cloth Market, Orangi to Landhi, and Bajri Stand/ Sohrab Goth to M.A. Jinnah Road (Radio Pakistan).

The Chief Secretary advised to all Stake holders that coordinated efforts and consultation must be accorded for smooth functioning of the project, as well, the salient features with the specific references of sufficient management should also be incorporated, he added.

Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, and representatives of KMC also attended.
