KARACHI: GAVI Vaccinators Alliance Sindh on Monday staged a protest demonstration for payment of their four-month salaries and regularization on their jobs, outside the Karachi Press Club.
The protesters were carrying banners and placards and they raised slogans for their demands.
The representatives of Pakistan Paramedical Staff Association (PPMSA) Karachi Haq Nawaz Sial and Ismail Jaskani also attended the protest demonstration to show sympathy with unpaid vaccinators.
A member GAVI Vaccinators Alliance Sindh Ghulam Mustafa Shar while talking to media said around 700 Gavi vaccinators have not been paid their salaries in Sindh province since last four months. He said vaccinators perform their duties across the province to save children from nine vaccine-preventable diseases.
He informed that Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, and Balochistan provincial governments have already regularized their vaccinators but the vaccinators in Sindh province still are working on contract basis. He said the vaccinators are performing their duties on just Rs7,000 per month salary.
He said Gavi vaccinator program was started in 2005 under Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation(GAVI) in Sindh since then they have been working on contract basis in Karachi and other parts of the province.
He demanded of the Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, provincial health minister and secretary health Sindh to pay their pending salaries and regularize their service.
