Updated: Seven, including a cop, killed in Karachi violence


KARACHI: Seven people, including a cop, were killed and three others injured in Karachi violence on Thursday. A cop Mehboob was killed and another policeman Farooq injured by armed men when they signalled them to stop in Orangi Town. The body and injured were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

A 60-year-old man, Qasim, son of Peer Bux, resident of North Karachi, was shot dead by unidentified armed men at Northern Bypass. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a postmortem.

A person identified as Sabir was killed for resisting a robbery attempt in Shamsi Colony of Orangi Town. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

A 20-year-old woman, Rani, wife of Qadir, was killed when a gun of security guard went off during cleaning it in Federal B area, Block-11. Accused guard fled to unknown destination. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for an autopsy.

A 40-year-old woman, Mehnaz, daughter of Aijaz, was killed and other 30-year-old woman, Shaheen, and a man Murshed were injured by unidentified men with attacks of knives in Tauheed Colony, Orangi Town, Block-L. The body and injured were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

A 3-year-old child was found dead along Superhighway near Jamali Goth. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for an autopsy. The identity of the victim could not be ascertained yet.

The body of a man was found from bushes in Jam Goth area. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for postmortem. The identity of the victim could not be ascertained yet.

Meanwhile, two men identified as Saqib and Adnan were injured in alleged shooting by Rangers personnel in SITE area. They were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment.

According to Rangers official, both men opened fire on Rangers personnel first. DG Rangers has formed a committee to probe the incident The committee will submit a report by Friday.

Rangers spokesman said that those personnel who were involved in the shooting would remain in detention until completion of the inquiry.
