Uproar in Sindh Assembly as PPPP, MQM spar on Karachi lawlessness

Karachi: Thick friends and coalition partners of recent past, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarian (PPPP) spilled beans about the political involvement in crimes and traded allegations before the MQM boycotted the sitting amid slogans of “Zalmo Jawab Do, Khun Ka Hisab Do!, Cruel people, give answer, and justify the blood of our dead.”

Their brawl began when MQM MPA Khawaja Izharul Hassan raised the issue of alleged extra-judicial killings of their activists in Karachi. Taking a strong notice of a comment about MQM by a senior police officer to foreign media he said the allegations against the MQM were wrong. He said the behavior of government shows that it was backing the killers of the MQM men. He said recently their activist Faraz Alam was extra-judicially killed and they protested along with his dead body outside the CM House but despite they were present at the door of the CM House for 10 hours, neither the CM, nor any other official contacted and sympathized with them.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah rejected the MQM claim and said the MQM had not staged a demo at the CM House, but ‘attacked’ and besieged it like old wars. He said operation in Karachi was started after all political parties agreed for this operation. He said the Karachi operation has given positive results and the cases of targeted killings, kidnapping for ransom and extortion have come down. He asked whose government is responsible for the bloodbath of May 12 in Karachi? He said in past political activists were also killed in Karachi, but why now a party is making a noise? On this the MQM members protested and raised slogans, but the Sindh CM said they do not like what I am saying because it is their weak point. He said I contacted Governor and he said he would try that the MQM men would leave the CM House in an hour. He said I sent Minister Sharjeel Memon, IGP Sindh and Commissioner but the MQM men refused to talk with them. He said his government would not allow anyone to make the law and order issue. He said we have a list of the name of terrorists and we would share it with media after giving permission from the interior minister. He said we have shifted their three men from Karachi to other jails and they are angry. He said if they would compel him he would spill more beans.

However, MQM lawmakers gathered before the dais of speaker and later raising slogans of “Zalmo Jawab Do, Khun Ka Hisab Do!, Cruel people, give answer, and justify the blood of our dead,” they boycotted the House.

However, PML-F lawmaker Mahtab Akbar Rashidi criticized both PPPP and MQM and said the people of Sindh have seen their drama many times. When their political needs suit they easily become friend and when their political needs do not suit they become opponents. She said there reconciliatory friendship or political opposition only bring sufferings to the masses of Sindh. She said now time is ripe to call spade a spade. She said the government should summon a courage to call criminal a criminal and terrorist a terrorist without mincing words. She said under the present government not only the cities and towns but villages are also insecure. She demanded to give security to people of Sindh.

She said the people of Sindh have also been braving economic genocide. She said the sugarcane growers of Sindh are the worst affected of this economic genocide and the government should support them and help them getting due price of sugarcane which is their right.
