Karachi: WAPDA and Army, who occupies first and second spot at the points table of the ongoing 3rd All Pakistan Fatima Jinnah Gold Cup Hockey Tournament underway in Multan, are expected to meet in the summit clash of the tournament.

WAPDA, with 14 points leads the table followed by Army with 11 points. Punjab (Colour) holds third position on the table with 10 points. Punjab University Club is fourth on the table with nine points.

However, all three top teams have to play one match each to complete the single league, which means WAPDA’s final opponent are still to be confirmed.

On Tuesday PU Club will face Sindh while Army and Punjab (Colour) would lock horns in the last match of the league. If Army wins the match it would certainly play the final against WAPDA.

In case of Punjab (Colour) victory, then it will move to the second top position and will play the final.

Meanwhile, on Monday two matches played ended in a draw at the District Sports Ground. None of the teams could score a goal.

An interesting encounter was expected in the first match between Punjab (Colour) and Punjab University Club but both were cautious and maintained a defensive approach throughout the match. PU Club did try to exert pressure in patches during the second and third quarters amid good moves which earned them five penalty corners also but they failed to convert. Punjab (Colour) also wasted two penalty corners.

Second match between WAPDA and Punjab (White) couldn’t be played because of intermittent rain which made it impossible to play on the grassy ground. The Tournament jury after consultation with officials of both teams decided to award one point each to both sides.
