Karachi: WAPDA overpowered Army while Railway defeated Punjab Colour by identical 3-1 score-line in semifinals to confirm their place in the final of 28th National Women’s Hockey Championship here Wednesday at Hockey Club of Pakistan.
WAPDA begin to show its supremacy early in the match when its player Nazia Rehmat scored in the fourth minute of the match. Ambreen Arshad doubled the lead for WAPDA when she scored in 17th minute.
After trailing 0-2 in the first half, Army tried to make a comeback with a goal from Aisha Rafiq, who scored in the 44th minute. However, four minutes later WAPDA’s Mariam Sabir scored to make it 3-1, the score-line which sustained till referee blew the final whistle.
Meanwhile, Railway’s Aqsa Mumtaz put it 1-0 up in the 27th minute but it took only three minutes for Punjab Colour to level arrears when Sidra Ayub scored for the side.
However, Hina Kanwal put Railway back on track when she scored in 33rd and 53rd minute to make it 3-1 for the side. None of the sides produced further goals in the remaining part of the match.
The summit clash and the final will be played on Thursday, April 3 at Hockey Club of Pakistan Stadium.
