KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Saturday sent Asif Ali, an alleged killer of Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) central information member Waqas Shah, to jail on judicial remand till 20 July 2015.
ATC judge Anand Ram Sairani conducted the case’s hearing in his chamber where the police requested the court to extend suspects’ physical remand. Defence counsel opposed the police’s request for the extension in physical remand. After hearing arguments from both sides, the judge sent the accused to jail on judicial remand. He also directed the police to submit an investigation report during the next hearing.
According to the police, the weapon, which was used in killing Shah, has been recovered from Yaseenabad. The suspect revealed that he buried the weapon in a drain near Yaseenabad, and after hiding the weapon, Asif escaped. Later on, he was arrested by rangers on 25 June from Shahdadpur, Sindh. The rangers handed over him to Azizabad police, and he was in police’s custody on physical remand from 28th June.
MQM worker Waqas Shah was killed on 11 March 2015 outside MQM headquarter, Nine-Zero, when angry party workers were protesting against rangers’ raid at the party’s headquarter.
