KARACHI: Karachi License Department has no appointments for visitors till January, 2016, who are intending to get learner licence.
The Karachi Licence Department is issuing learner licences’ forms that are stamped and asking the candidates to revisit after two months due to rush of visitors at its all three branches in the metropolis.
Official sources revealed to PPI on Monday that Karachi Licence Department has acute shortage of computers and other equipment to deal with the large number of candidates who are visiting to get their learner licences after a drive was initiated in the city by Karachi Traffic Police against license less drivers.
At least 8500 learner licences and up to 1000 full driving licences have been issued to Karachiites by the Karachi Licence Department in a week, said an official who want to be anonymous.
People including old age men were seen waiting for hours in long queues for their turn to get licences in all three branches of licence department including Clifton, Nazimabad and Korangi.
The official said that licence department is also using its mobile van service which was earlier stopped on the plea that mobile van is against to traffic laws. However, this van parked inside the Clifton branch is issuing learner licences.
The mobile van was supposed to visit colleges, universities or public places of the city to facilitate citizens in getting learner driving licences on the spot; however, so far the van is parked inside the Clifton Branch, added the official.
