Zardari suggests political parties throw out their ‘rotten eggs’

Karachi: Pakistan Peoples’ Party Parliamentarian (PPP) Cochairman Asif Ali Zardari has advised the Pakistani political parties to throw out ‘rotten eggs’ in their ranks and files, saying action should be taken against the criminals and not against the political parties.

Addressing a press conference at Bilawal House here Thursday, he said dialogue is the only way to resolve the issues. He said there is no other way for democracies sans dialogue. He said he was happy that that the present government was also holding dialogue process to resolve local and external issues. He said he also congratulates the government and Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf for their successful dialogue regarding judicial commission.

Zardari said Pakistan cannot remain unrelated to the Middle East crisis as two million Pakistanis work in Saudi Arabia and one million more in different Gulf countries. He said his party wants that the differences amongst the Muslim nations are resolved peacefully. He said his party has decided to send delegation to our friendly countries and urge them to resolve the crisis peacefully. He said his party has also decided to send a reminder to the President of Pakistan to seek justice regarding reopening of Bhutto case.

To a question that when killers and terrorists are being arrested from the headquarters of MQM, Nine Zero, would he still like to continue friendship with the MQM, he said ‘rotten eggs’ are in all parties including his own parties. He said all political parties should throw away their rotten eggs. He said however, political parties or political process could not be sidelined for these rotten eggs. He said action should be taken against the criminal elements and political parties should not be ended on this pretest. He said his party is for friendship with all political parties and the election of the chairman of Senate was also the result of this friendship policy. He said Jamaat e Islami (JI) Sirajul Haq once had asked him about the slogan of Zardari sub pe bhari (Zardari is mightier than all others), and he replied that the correct slogan was Zardari ki sab si yari (Zardari is friend of all others).

He said the government of Prime Minister Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif should convene a conference of Islamic countries on the crisis of Middle East. He said his party also demanded the government to convene an all parties’ conference and give it in-camera briefing on the Middle East crisis and official response to it of the government of Pakistan.

To a question about his son Bilawal, he said Bilawal is being training in London and he would be introduced in political theatre after his thoughts are mature enough.

To a question about the performance of PPPP-led Sindh government, he said he had already made it clear that its performance is still wanting.

He said they demand an independent election commission, financially and administratively. He said corruption could be curtailed with the use of modern technology. He said they have made a digitalized land record bank in Sindh which would be introduced soon. He said presence of ghost employees could also be ensured with the use of modern technology. He said his party’s government in Sindh wants to improve performance of schools and hospitals by handing them to non-government organizations (NGOs). The government would meet their expenditures while the NGOs would run them.

He said he is not happy with the federal government due to prolonged electricity load shedding in Sindh and issues of upfront tariff of alternate energy.
