Eight fishermen rescued, four still missing as two boats sink in sea

KARACHI: Eight fishermen were rescued while four are still missing after two boats sank into the Arabian Sea near Keti Bandar port of Thatha city on Saturday.

Pakistan Maritime Security Agency teams rescued four of the fishermen. Later, two four more fishermen were rescued. However, they continued the search for the remaining fishermen. Those rescued were:

Khamiso s/o M. Raheem

M Siddique s/o Usman

Usman s/o Karim Bux

Haroon s/o Noor Mohammed

Akber s/o Soomar

Umer s/o Soomar

Bhutto s/o Abdul Karim

All are the residents of village Haji Ghulam Malah, Taluka Golarchi, District Badin. Second boat with 22 fishermen onboard were rescued and on their way to Keti Bunder. All fishermen of this boat are safe.

Pakistan Maritime Agency personnel said their teams have been responding to such calls from the fishermen in difficulty amid the strong winds and harsh weather conditions at the sea. Today, cold weather and dusty winds are blowing in Karachi city and its coastal belt. The fishermen have been advised to stop sailing into the sea.

All concerned authorities have advised to remain “VIGILANT” during the forecasted period of bad weather conditions in Karachi and other parts of Sindh. Yesterday five people were killed due to heavy wind-related incidents in Karachi.
