Deewan sees Sindh govt running away from LB polls

KARACHI: Pak Muslim Alliance Deewan chairman Bachoo Abdul Qadir Deewan said on Sunday that problems were rising in Sindh due to non-holding of local body elections.

This he said while addressing a meeting at his office. The meeting was also attended by central leaders and workers of the alliance. On this occasion, Deewan said: “The local body elections are considered as the nursery of politics but political governments claiming democracy in Pakistan always cause hindrance in the local body elections.”

He observed that the provincial government had been running away from the local body elections in the Sindh province for the last one year. He said that there were a lot of problems in Karachi due to lack of local body elections in Sindh.

Deewan said: “The whole city looks like a garbage dump while municipal facilities, including water supply and sewerage disposal, have disappeared. The members of the National Assembly were also facing difficulties due to lack of local body system.”

He said that transfer of power to lower level by holding local body elections would not be detrimental but beneficial to the provincial government as people were anxious to solve their problems and if local body system was established, then people’s problems would be solved which would put pressure on the provincial government. The Sindh government should ensure the holding of the local body elections and focus on solving the problems of the people, he said.
