Demo against drones

Karachi: Pasban has demanded of the civil and military leadership to be on one page to get stopped deadly drone attacks on Pakistani soil. Addressing a big protest demo in front of Karachi Press Club (KPC) here Friday, Pasban Pakistan President Altaf Shakoor said continuation of drone attacks in Pakistan gives wrong signals to Pakistanis about the political will of their rulers to uphold the national sovereignty. He said this is dire time that our political leadership should bridge their difference and raise a united strong voice against the drone attacks. He said innocent civilians including women and children are murdered in drone attacks which is violation of the international law and all norms of civilization. He said the civil and military leadership needs to take bold decisions to prove their country is an independent nation.

Altaf Shakoor said the nation had pinned high hopes with the government of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) that it would take right decisions to get the violation of national airspace stopped for good, but sadly the drone attacks are yet to be stopped despite the recent visit of Mian Nawaz Sharif to the USA and discussion of this issue with the US leadership. He said the divided political leadership in Pakistan is the main hurdle in sending a strong voice to international community including the United Nations to stop civilian deaths in these attacks.

Pasban leader said like the issue of drone attacks the matter of imprisonment of Dr Aafia Siddiqui also needs unity of political leadership in Pakistan. He said it requires courage on the part of leadership to defend the national interests. He said the spineless leaders cannot stop drones, not secure the release of the daughter of the nation, Aafia Siddiqui.

On the occasion, a large number of protestors holding flags, banners, placards and portraits of Aafia Siddiqui raised slogans against the drone attacks. Pasban activists also displayed a big symbolic replica of drone which was the center of attraction of people.
