KARACHI: International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), Karachi University (KU), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with University Technology Malaysia (UTM) to further develop academic and research cooperation between both the institutions in the fields of natural and biological sciences.
MoU was signed at ICCBS KU during the recent visit of Malaysian scholars. Director ICCBS Prof Dr M Iqbal Chaudhary and Head of Chemistry Department of UTM Prof Dr Hasnah Mohd Sirat signed MoU on behalf of their institutions. Former Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) Prof Dr Atta-ur-Rahman, International Research Coordinator of ICCBS KU Prof Dr Ahsana Dar Farooq and UTM Dean Faculty of Sciences Prof Dr Madzlan Aziz were also present.
As per the agreement, both the institutions have agreed to enhance relations between the two universities and to develop academic exchange in the area of education and research. They also agreed to identify team members to work on joint research projects. As per MoU, bi-institutional meeting will be held annually by the two parties.
Malaysian scholars said that UTM was considered one of the most leading institutions in Malaysia.
Dr Iqbal said that the collaborative activities to be covered by this agreement may include faculty and research staff exchanges, study abroad program, collaborative research programs, including the exchange of voucher samples, and natural product extracts; joint seminars, workshops, and service programs.
This agreement will be in effect for a period of five years from the date of execution and may be extended through mutual agreement in writing by both parties, he said.
