Karachi: International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), Karachi University (KU), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with University Technology Malaysia (UTM), to further develop academic and research cooperation between both the institutions in the fields of natural and biological sciences.
The MoU was signed ICCBS-KU in the recent visit of Malaysian scholars.
Director ICCBS Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary and Head of Chemistry Department of UTM Prof. Dr. Hasnah Mohd Sirat signed the MoU on behalf of their institutions. On the occasion, former Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) Prof. Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman, International Research Coordinator of ICCBS-KU Prof. Dr. Ahsana Dar Farooq and UTM Dean Faculty of Sciences Prof. Dr. Madzlan Aziz were also present.
As per the agreement, both the institutions have agreed to enhance relations between the two Universities and to develop academic exchange in the area of education and research, and have agreed to identify team members to work on joint research projects. As per the MoU, bi-institutional meeting will be held annually in the form of workshop / seminar / conference jointly organised by the Parties.
Malaysian scholars said that UTM is considered one of the most leading institutions in Malaysia.
Dr. Iqbal Choudhary said that the collaborative activities to be covered by this agreement may include faculty and research staff exchanges, study abroad program, collaborative research programs, including the exchange of voucher samples, and natural product extracts; joint seminars, workshops, and service programs.
This Agreement will be in effect for a period of five years from the date of execution and may be extended by mutual agreement in writing by both parties, he said.
