Karachi: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh, Shahid Nadeem Baloch, has ordered strict security measures for Friday prayers, keeping in view the tense situation in some parts of the country.
In a press release issued on Thursday, Baloch directed officials to take clerics, social and political leaders and other dignitaries into confidence over the current situation and urge them to work for sectarian harmony.
He directed Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs) to beef up surveillance around mosques, Imambargahs, seminaries, shrines and residences of clerics and political leaders. He ordered officials to assign special duties to plainclothes of intelligence department around railway stations, bus terminals, hotels, tea stalls and entry and exit points of the city to safeguard the lives of innocent people from criminals.
He ordered increased snap-checking and raids against criminal elements along with arrest of wanted criminals, having names in red book maintained by Criminal Investigation Department of Police (CID).
