Minister wants Rangers, police outside Larkana temples

KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Minorities and Wildlife, Gyan Chand Asrani, on Tuesday directed Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Larkana and Commissioner Larkana to deploy Rangers personnel and police force outside temples in the district.

The directions were given amid security concerns in the area after a Hindu temple at Jinnah Bagh in Larkana was set on fire on Saturday night over allegations of blasphemy. The incident sparked tension in the area. The police and Rangers later arrested a person involved in the act.

The minister said that the security authorities had found letters threatening more attacks on temples in Larkana. He said that the both officials were directed to take strict security measures around temples.

He said that any one disturbing law and order situation in the district would not be spared and strict action would be taken against elements involved in increasing hatred in the area.

He said that the provincial government was committed to protect the rights of minorities at any cost and they would ensure that the current incident should not repeat again.
