KARACHI: Director General (DG) Rangers Sindh Major General Rizwan Akhtar on Wednesday said that additional powers, granted to paramilitary force by Sindh government, was not more than a piece of paper.
Addressing the launching of Command and Control Centre in FB Area, he said that number of Rangers in Karachi was very low and government had not fulfilled the promises it made before the operation. He said that illegal SIMs must be closed for peace and arms licenses be linked to Nadra.
Rizwan said; “People, who do not trust police and rangers, should tell how peace will come.” He said that there is need to recruit more policemen in Karachi.”
He said that Sindh government had given additional powers to paramilitary force after Supreme Court suo moto notice taken on August 24, 2011. However, these powers were not more than a piece of paper, he added.
He said that strict checking should be carried out on three routes of Karachi. All agencies should work together to improve the law and order situation, said DG Rangers.
Rizwan said that Lyari is not only locality in Karachi facing issues but there are several other areas facing such problems.
