Karachi: Director National Institute of Child Health (NICH) Prof Jamal Raza on Thursday said 78 operations had been carried out in newly established Day Care Centre within two months, while a new laparoscopic surgery for children patients would be started soon in hospital
Talking to media, Prof Jamal informed that new Day-Care Surgery Centre had made functional about two months ago in hospital to facilitate children patients coming from far flung areas of Sindh province and other parts of the country.
He said poor families of interior Sindh could not afford the expenses of hotels or rented houses, therefore, the hospital administration keeping in view such situation, had established Day-Care Surgery Centre to handle the complicated cases of children in a day.
He said 78 operations had been carried out in Day Care Centre in the last two months and most of children return back to homes within a day after operation. He said NICH run Day Care Centre and new laparoscopic surgery for patients would be started soon in hospital
He said NICH administration was considering getting support of philanthropists to fulfil the staff shortage in hospital.
He said around 18,000 children gets free of cost treatment facilities from different wards of hospital every month. He said in past 8,000 children got treatment from the hospital every month and now number has been doubled as compared to past.
He said NICH recently opened new emergency ward in hospital equipped with latest machines and skilled staff in order to provide best available treatment to children. He said construction of new playground for visiting children patients is also underway with aim to provide healthy atmosphere in hospital.
He said administration had handed over the security to private security guards and installed closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in different wards of hospital to monitor the overall security of NICH. He said Command and Control Room (Security) has also been established in hospital to stop the kidnapping cases of children patient in the premises of hospital and harassment of staff.
