Karachi: National Trade Union Federation (NTUF) held a rally here on Monday to press their demands including release of Rs40bn of Sindh Workers Welfare Fund and the vacation of more than 4000 flats erected for workers from encroachers.
The rally participants marched from the Regal Chowk to Karachi Press Club, raising banners and placards. They demanded solution to the problems faced by worker community.
NTUF deputy general secretary Nasir Mansoor regretted that the federal government is not releasing more than Rs40bn of the Sindh Workers Welfare Fund. He said more than 4000 flats constructed for workers were allotted to them five years ago, but practically these flats are occupied by land grabbers and the government is not taking action to get them vacated and handed them to their legal allotees.
Pakistan Workers Confederation vice president Muhammad Rafiq Baloch, Karachi Trade Union Action Committee general secretary Ahmed Zeb and other labour leaders also spoke.
