KARACHI: Ziauddin University held the Orientation Day of 7th Batch of Ziauddin College of Speech Language & Hearing Sciences (ZCSL&HS) here today. Prof Dr Pirzada Qasim, Vice Chancellor, Ziauddin University, welcoming the new batch of ZCSL&HS, said that the university places considerable importance in the field of speech language and hearing sciences and would continue to highlight its importance by training and educating more and more students.
He said due to shortage of qualified trainers in the field, the graduating students from the college were immediately absorbed in various teaching and medical institutions of Karachi and Lahore.
Chief guest of the ceremony, Abbas Hussain, Director, Teacher’s Development Center, said that the importance to gain real knowledge had lasting impact on the lives of the students. “There is something wrong about the education we receive and the way we receive it,” he said.
Ms Amina Siddiqui, Principal, Ziauddin College of Speech Language & Hearing Sciences, narrated the story of a little baby who died at the age of four due to lack of access to resources that could deal with the communication impairment of the child.
She highlighted the need for more resources, education and training for curing the speech language and hearing disability. She said that there was a gradual increase in the number of speech language and hearing patients which were 200 per month in 2010 and reached 600 per month in 2013. Therefore, the Ziauddin University Hospital has decided to start a teaching facility at Ziauddin University North Nazimabad Campus as well.
