Owner, staff booked in Korangi factory fire killings

KARACHI: Korangi Industrial Area police station said on Saturday that they had registered a case pertaining to the deaths of 16 labourers at a chemical factory in Mehran town area of Korangi in Karachi.

The case has been registered against factory owner Ali Mehta, manager Imran Zaidi, two supervisors Zafar and Rehan and a watchman Syed Zarin for showing utter negligence including having no emergency exit in the factory.

Earlier, SBCA’s assistant director, senior building inspector and building inspector were suspended for not taking action against the illegal factory built on a residential plot. An inquiry committee has been formed to probe those responsible for approving the building plan. On Friday, at least 16 labourers were killed in the factory fire.
