Pakistan has been the pioneering force behind disabled cricket: Basit Ali

Karachi: Former Test cricketer Basit Ali, who is also PCB’s Cricket Consultant for Zone 1, said that Pakistan has been pioneering force behind the promotion of disabled cricket in the international arena.

“The people behind Pakistan Disabled Cricket Association (PDCA) should be appreciated for all the good work they have done to promote disabled cricket,” Basit said on Tuesday during the preparatory camp of Pakistan disabled cricket team here at National Stadium. The camp concluded on Tuesday evening.

Pakistan disabled cricket team will be leaving for Dubai today (Wednesday) to feature in three one-day and three T20 match series against their English counterparts. The series will begin with a T20 match on March 21.

“The sponsors should come forward and help in promoting cricket for disabled players as they do for normal cricketers. Moreover, these cricketers should be given similar importance and facilities as our national cricketers are given,” Basit said.

He further said he believe that our disabled cricketers will bring laurels for the country as our normal cricket team do. “Our disabled cricketers have great potential and I strongly believe that they could earn laurels for the country as our normal cricketers do at the international level.”

He assured disabled cricket officials that he would do his best to help them promote disabled cricket in the country being a part of Pakistan Cricket Board.

“Being a part of PCB, I will try my level best to help promote disabled cricket in the country,” Basit added.

He hoped that the team will perform well during the series in UAE against England.
