Karachi: Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Centre and PMA Karachi chapter on Tuesday strongly condemned the brutal murder of three polio workers in Qayyumabad area of Karachi and demanded exemplary punishment for the criminals.
An emergency meeting of PMA Centre and PMA Karachi was held at PMA house Karachi on Tuesday, attended by Dr Mirza Ali Azhar, Dr SM Qaisar Sajjad, Prof M Idrees Adhi, Dr Serajuddaula Syed, Dr Shoaib Sobani, Dr Qazi Wasiq, Dr. Ahmed Bhemani, Dr Hamid Manzoor, Dr Khalil Mukaddam, Dr Aziz Khan Tank, Dr Shershah Syed, Dr Naseer Baloch, Dr Usman Ghani, Dr Najam Feroz Mehmoodi and many other senior members of the organization.
The meeting strongly condemned the murder of three polio workers in Qayyumabad. It said the miscreants have been killing and threatening the workers of polio campaign for dire consequences since a long time, but the government taking no action against them. Pakistan is an unfortunate country having the largest number of polio cases, it noted.
PMA showed extreme concern about the deteriorating situation of law and order in the country. It said it seems as there is no rule of law or the writ of the government. The doctors and other health workers were taking part in the anti-polio campaign as their national duty, but the government has failed to provide them protection. The situation is not acceptable to PMA. It should come to an end; otherwise PMA would launch a country-wide protest against these atrocities.
