Sharjeel lays foundation stone of two flyovers

KARACHI: Minister for Local Government Sharjeel Inam Memon said on Wednesday that various mega projects have been started for development of Karachi in which Malir Halt and Malir 15 Flyovers were included. These both flyovers will incur Rs01 billion and estimated time of their completion is a year, however, they will be completed in six to eight months with an excellent pace of construction work, he said this while talking to media representatives after laying foundation stone of Malir Halt and Malir 15 Flyovers.

On this occasion, Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhtar Farooqui, Metropolitan Commissioner Samiuddin Siddiqui, Administrator Malir Ashfaq Mallah, Administrator Korangi Ghulam Rasool, Director General Engineering Department Niaz Ahmed Soomro, Sr Director Municipal Services Masood Alam, Project Director Khalid Masroor and other officers were also present.

LG minister said that development works had been started in whole province and various mega projects were also underway in Karachi which would facilitate people.

He said that no compromise would be made on quality of material in development works and they would make Karachi an ideal and lighted city.

Administrator Karachi gave a briefing in which he said that Malir Halt and Malir 15 Flyovers held much importance as those flyovers would facilitate traffic going from Sharae Faisal to National Highway and traffic jam problem would be resolved on these locations.

He said that Malir 15 Flyover was being constructed with a cost of Rs532 million whereas Malir Halt Flyover with a cost of Rs386 million.

Malir Halt Flyover will consist of three lanes with 440 meter-length and both ramps of this flyover will be constructed with a 472-meter safety wall whereas it will have 14 spans and 135 girders.

He said that Soil Investigation Report had been received from laboratory. “Sign boards and trees will be removed from the way of construction. Alternative route was also being constructed. NOC was being obtained from Railway for usage of some piece of land of railway and for removing gate from railway line Malir Halt. Preparation of girders will begin right after construction of alternative route whereas 18 cables of utility services were being shifted which were laying on Malir 15,” he said.

Administrator Karachi said that the policy of carrying out all development works speedily was being implemented to provide citizens with every possible better facility so that development works could be completed as soon as possible.

He said that non-stop work would continue on all development projects, including Malir Halt and Malir 15 Flyovers, whereas excellent quality material in development works was being ensured so that development projects would prove stable and people keep on benefiting from them for a long time.
