KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday issued notices to home secretary, chairman Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB), administrator Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and other officials on a petition calling for action against illegal water hydrant being operated in Nazimabad in Karachi.
A division bench headed by Justice Irfan Saddat Khan was seized with the hearing of a petition filed by Muhammad Rizwan and Abdul Sattar, residents of Nazimabad area, who named home secretary, chairman Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB), administrator KMC, deputy commissioner, SHO Paposh Nagar and Liaqat Khan as respondents.
The petitioner submitted that private respondent, Liaqat Khan, was operating illegal water hydrant in Nazimabad No.1 of the city, which had caused acute water shortage to the residents of the area.
He said that he had approached authorities concerned, including head of Paposh police station, seeking action against illegal hydrant but to no avail. Hence, he requested the court to direct respondents to take action against illegal hydrant.
The bench issued notices to respondents and advocate general Sindh to file comments and adjourned the hearing of case by February 13.
