SHC restrains Shikarpur police for arresting free-will marriage couple

Karachi: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday restrained Shikarpur police from arresting a freewill couple booked in a kidnapping case.

Asma and her husband Attaullah Soomro, residents of Shikarpur district, contracted marriage on Feb 08, 2014, after the woman executed a freewill agreement at Sukkur’s local court.

Petitioner, Asma said that her family being annoyed with their marriage was harassing her husband and his family. She stated that her family has got registered a FIR for kidnapping her against her husband and his family members at New Faujdari police station in Shikarpur district.

She said that her family had declared the couple liable to be killed in name of honour and for that purpose they were chasing them. She said that a false FIR has been lodged of her abduction as she on her own will has contracted the marriage.

Headed by the Justice Ghulam Sarwar Korai, the division bench issued notice to prosecutor general Sindh, and investigation officer at New Faujdari police station.
